Selection of Non-Biological and Biological Resources with High Carbon Sequestration Capacity in Soil

Category 1 representatiuve: Motoaki Seki (RIKEN)

We have selected multiple potential materials and resources. In collaboration with our counterpart AGI, we proceeded with the selection of cassava varieties and confirmed the preparation status of seedlings for this year.

Development of a Technology Package for Measuring Soil Carbon Sequestration

Category 2 representative: Yo Toma (Hokkaido University)

At the Southern Branch of SFI, our counterpart, we have selected the necessary equipment, determined the installation locations, and confirmed the analytical framework based on collaboration with Japan.

Establishment of Regenerative Agricultural Systems

Category 3 representatiuve: Takuro Shinano (Hokkaido Universitry)

We held discussions with our counterparts, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tây Ninh Province, and local farmers regarding the five-year policy for establishing the experimental fields. After multiple site inspections, we finalized the location for the 5-hectare experimental field to be set up this year. We also obtained the consent of the land-owning farmers. Regarding cooperation from surrounding farmers, several farmers who were consulted during previous visits have expressed their willingness to collaborate.

Social Implementation of Regenerative Farming Practices

Category 4 representative: Costa Junior Ciniro (CIAT、Hokkaido University)

Focusing on carbon flow, we conducted on-site inspections at cassava production farms, starch extraction factories, and starch utilization factories (Ajinomoto Vietnam - Biên Hòa Factory). At the same time, through literature reviews and related research, we assessed the potential of regenerative agriculture and Scope 3 emission reductions while also analyzing global trends in carbon sequestration in agricultural lands.
